About the Course

Overview

The refreshed Built Environment Industry Transformation Map (ITM) seeks to facilitate the ramping up of decarbonization efforts, achieving low emissions buildings and districts with efficient building management enabled by Integrated, Aggregated and Smart Facilities Management (FM).  Smart FM refers to the integration of systems, processes, technologies and personnel to enhance the management of a building’s facilities. By using smart FM and leveraging data analytics, predictive maintenance, and smart technology solutions, productivity and efficiency can be raised, labour intensity can be reduced, and service delivery and quality can be enhanced.

With the growing demand for smart buildings, Knowledge and skillsets in Smart FM can enhance the employability of personnel to be involved in the planning, design, construction and maintenance of smart and sustainable buildings.

The SkillsFuture Career Transition Programmes (SCTP) in Smart and Sustainable Facility Management will provide individuals with the knowledge and skills to plan and manage building operations and maintenance efficiently and sustainably with the adoption of Smart FM and sustainable green measures.

Objectives

Upon completion of the programme, you will be able to:

  • apply and integrate digital technologies and smart automation to manage facility operations and maintenance
  • identify critical maintenance areas and feasibility to apply Design for Maintainability (DfM) principles throughout the project lifecycle
  • implement the organisation's green building strategies on facility operations and maintenance to minimise environmental impact and operational costs

This will adequately equip you to pursue a career as a Building Officer/ Supervisor or an Assistant Facilities Manager.

Programme Structure

Module 1: Digital Delivery of FM (Course code: 79034 – M1)

Jan 2025   Duration: 3 months

  • Introduction to Facilities Management

This course introduces the concepts and principles of facilities management, asset management, risk management and the basic principles of building legislation under the Building Maintenance and Strata Management Act.

  • Integrated Digital Delivery for Facilities Management

This course delves into the use of Integrated Digital Delivery (IDD) to integrate processes and stakeholders through advanced info-communications technology (ICT) and smart technologies, hence improving FM outcome.

Module 2: Planning and Management of Smart FM (Course code: 79034 – M2)

May 2025   Duration: 3 months

  • Smart FM Systems Overview

This course covers the principle, processes, framework, hardware and infrastructure that contribute towards Smart FM system. The technical considerations and feasibilities of adoption of hardware into a building will be discussed.

  • Design for Maintainability

This course introduces the concept of Design for Maintainability (DfM) outlining its key challenges and benefits. The maintainability of a building from the various key aspects, namely the Architectural, Landscape, Structure and M&E will be covered.

  • Energy Conservation Strategies for SMART Buildings

This course covers the various innovative energy conservation strategies and their applications in a Smart Building.

  • IT in Smart FM

This course covers the use of IT to manage and maintain Smart Facilities, incorporating the usage of AR, VR, MR, drones, machine learning and digital twin. The usage of IT in predictive maintenance will also be discussed.

Module 3: Integrated Facility Management (Course code: 79034 – M3)

Sep 2025   Duration: 3 months

  • Computerised Management and Maintenance System

This course enables learners to use Computerised Management and Maintenance System (CMMS) to better manage building premises using computerised database of information.

  • Building Management System

The Building Management System (BMS) system is a computer-based system that operates, monitors and controls a building’s major Mechanical & Electrical  system and equipment. This course introduces the hardware and software associated with the BMS, and discuss the interoperability of the different building systems.

  • Procurement of FM System

This course introduces the practice and approach towards an outcome-based Integrated FM contract, from pre-tender through post-tender stages, to drive better performance and FM value.

  • Web-Based Hands on Simulation Tool

This course allows learners to appreciate and experience how changes in building systems parameters could impact building performance.

Module 4: Green Building Design Criteria and Green Mark (Course code: 79034 – M4)

Sep 2025   Duration: 0.5 month

  • Certification Course in Green Mark Accredited Professionals (GMAP)

Learners will gain an in-depth understanding of BCA’s environmental sustainability legislative framework, underlying performance standards and BCA Green Mark assessment systems. Focus will be placed on green building design considerations and technologies, where the participants will learn the methods of identifying, evaluating and selecting cost effective solutions towards a more holistic green building performance.
