About the Course

Overview

This module develops learners’ capabilities in architectural visual communication and building envelope design. It equips learners with skills to create three-dimensional design visualisations using modelling tools and rendering techniques to support design presentation. In parallel, learners gain an understanding of building façade systems, including materials, components, specifications, and construction practices, as well as their maintenance and performance considerations. The module also examines the thermal performance of building envelopes and the factors influencing façade performance, supporting informed design decisions that balance aesthetics, functionality, and environmental performance.

Objectives

Upon completion of the module, you will be able to:

  • Produce effective 3D architectural visualisations and rendered outputs to communicate design intent.
  • Evaluate building façade systems and envelope performance in relation to materials, construction practices, and thermal efficiency.

This will adequately equip you to pursue a career as an Architectural Assistant or Sustainable Design Assistant.

Course Outline

Module 4: Advanced Digital Design for Sustainable Buildings (Course code: 79032 – M4)

Duration: 39 hours over 1.5 months

  • Design Visualization

The course equips learners with the skills to use modelling programme to produce 3D sketch models for presentation and visualization including the use of plug-ins for photo-realistic lighting effects.

  • Building Façade & Performance

The course introduces the various types of facades such as traditional wall materials, stone and metal cladding and curtain walls.  It covers the materials, finishes and components, specifications, installation, maintenance considerations and good industry practices for the building envelope. The thermal performance of building envelopes and the subsystems which affect the performance of building envelope will also be explored.
