About the Course

Overview

The Integrated Work-Study Diploma (IWSD) Pathway Programme (IPP) is a 3-month preparatory programme (January to March every year) to prepare international students for BCAA's IWSD programmes and equip these students with foundational skills while helping them acclimatise to Singapore’s living and studying environment, giving them a good headstart before they embark on the IWSD programmes.

Course Outline

Curriculum

The programme comprises three core courses:

1. Communication Skills
This course develops learner’s communication competencies through an industry-focus, integrated approach. Learners will strengthen their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills through Built Environment scenarios and real-world context including presentations, learning journeys, stakeholder interviews, site visit report writing, and role-playing scenarios simulating industry interactions. Through these practical experiences, learners will build their professional vocabulary and confidence in using technical terms related to productivity, sustainability, green buildings, and digitalisation.

Classroom hours: 100 hours; Asynchronous hours: 20 hours

2. Basic Digital Drawings
This course develops learners’ digital design competencies, from fundamental digital drawing to Building Information Modelling (BIM). Starting with AutoCAD fundamentals, learners will learn to interpret building drawings and create 2D and 3D models. The course then advances to BIM applications where learners will use BIM modelling software to create BIM model and gain introductory exposure to BIM coordination and collaboration tools.

Classroom hours: 100 hours; Asynchronous hours: 20 hours

3. Introduction to the Built Environment
This course provides learners with an understanding of the principles that underpin the design, construction, operation and maintenance of buildings. It covers the advancements shaping Singapore’s Built Environment, from sustainability practices to cutting-edge technologies. Learners will explore concepts in both traditional and modern construction methods and trends.

Classroom hours: 50 hours; Asynchronous hours: 10 hours

The IPP intake for 2026 will be commencing on 12 January 2026 and comprise a 10-weeks curriculum time with 1-week break for Chinese New Year. 

Note: Registration closes 2 weeks prior to modular certificate commencement or when the class is fully subscribed, whichever comes first. Registration can remain open until course commencement date if training spaces are still available.

Students from Malaysia

Unified Examination Certificate (UEC)

  • English Language: Grade A1 - B6
  • Any Mathematics Subject: Grade A1 - B6
  • Any Relevant Subject: Grade A1 - B6

Unified Examination Certificate Vocational (UECV)

  • English Language: Grade: A1 - B6
  • Any Mathematics Subject: Grade: A1 - B6
  • Any Engineering Relevant Subject: Grade: A1 - B6

Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) / Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia Vokasional (SPMV)

  • Bahasa Inggeris: Grade A+ - C
  • Any Mathematics Subject: Grade A+ - C
  • Any Relevant Subject: Grade A+ - C

Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM)

  • General Paper (English Medium): Grade: A - C or SPM Bahasa Inggeris: Grade: A+ - C
  • Any Mathematics Subject: Grade: A - C
  • Any Relevant Subject: Grade: A – C 

Candidates with the qualifications listed but do not meet the grade for 1 or more subjects need to pass BCAA Admission Screening Test (AST) 

Students from China

  • National College Entrance Examination (NCEE) (Gao Kao 高考); or
  • Completed Year 12 of Senior Middle School; or
  • Completed Year 11 of Senior Middle School with a minimum score of 60% in English, Mathematics, 1 relevant subject and 2 other best subjects

And passing BCAA Admission Screening Test (AST).

Students from Myanmar

Completed Basic Education High School (BEHS) Standard

  • English – Pass
  • Mathematics – Pass
  • Any Relevant Subject– Pass

And passing BCAA Admission Screening Test (AST).

Admission Screening Test

Applicants to the Integrated Work-Study Diploma Programme (IWSD) may be required to sit for the Admission Screening Test as part of the application process. Please refer to link for the Minimum Entry Requirements (MERs) for IWSD.

Who needs to take the test:

Admission Screening Tests are generally required for applicants with international qualifications, except for those holding the following qualifications*:

  • General Certificate of Education - Ordinary Levels (GCE O-Levels)
  • General Certificate of Education – Advanced Levels (GCE A-Levels)
  • International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) with English as first language
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma
  • Malaysia's Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), or Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM)

*Applicants who hold these qualifications but did not meet the Minimum Entry Requirements (MERs) may be permitted to take the Admission Screening Test as an alternative pathway to meet the entry requirements.

Test Structure:

The Admission Screening Test comprises two papers scheduled on the same day (with breaks in between)

Fees:

  • Singaporean and Singapore Permanent Residents: $55.00 (inclusive of GST) per attempt
  • International Students: $166.00 (inclusive of GST) per attempt

Mode of Test:

Admission Screening Test are conducted In-person in Singapore and overseas wherever possible. Applicants residing in countries where in-person tests have been scheduled (see Table 1 below) must take the tests in-person. Only applicants residing in other countries can take the online test.

Other Information

Students are required to pass the Admission Screening Tests administered by BCAA. Students who have successfully completed the IPP can progress to the IWSD.
