STACKABLE SPECIALIST DIPLOMA

You will have the flexibility to take the courses in any order and at your own pace*. The courses can be stacked up towards the Specialist Diploma.

INTRODUCTION

Integrated Planning and Design (IPD) has been identified as one of the key transformation areas that encourage collaborations among stakeholders in the Built Environment (BE) sector. IPD project management practices are critical to ensure collaboration and integration in the project design and delivery.

The Specialist Diploma in Integrated Project Management (SDIPM) is specially designed for building professionals to enhance their project management skills to plan, manage and execute building projects collaboratively so as to reap the benefits of IPD.

Course participants will be equipped with knowledge of emerging project management practices such as integrated procurement management and collaborative contracting.

The SDIPM qualification can be attained through successful completion of five stackable short courses and one project assignment. Participants may take individual courses at their own pace, or apply for the full programme at one go.

Accreditation of Project Managers
SDIPM is a recognised qualification by the Society of Project Managers (SPM) for all certification tiers under the Accreditation of Project Managers scheme. The SDIPM is aligned to the Skills Framework for Built Environment, suitable for those who wish to advance their skills in project management, or move into a new job role as Project Managers, Project Executives or Construction Management Engineer.

COURSE DETAILS

SIPM211 Scope of Work for Project Management in BE sector
This course provides course participants with the fundamental knowledge of critical work functions of project management. It introduces the concepts and methods to plan and execute building and construction projects, evaluate and improve project performance, enabling participants to identify project requirements based on project size, scope and timeline, as well as prepare project planning and executive documents in compliance with key relevant regulatory requirements.

SIPM212 Project Management Body of Knowledge in BE sector
This course covers the Project Management Body of Knowledge required in the BE sector, including project management standards and core functions and project lifecycle, stakeholder and communication management, managing consultancy services and consultants’ contributions, time and productivity management, quality management, contract management, cost and resource management, project risk management, Environment, Health and Safety management and Workplace Safety and Health management, value engineering and value management and project sustainability implementation.

SIPM213 Project Management for Productivity Enhancement
This course introduces productivity enhancement applications such as Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) and digital project management platform integrated with BIM throughout the project life cycle. Other trends such as Design for Maintainability will also be covered. Participants will learn through case studies on managing DfMA projects by adopting the advanced project management initiatives.

SIPM214 Integrated Procurement Management
This course will deepen participants’ competencies in procurement planning and management, enabling them to plan and manage various procurement strategies, from sourcing to purchasing of construction goods and services, to meet project expectations. Collaborative procurement mechanisms such as Early Contractor Involvement (ECI), Collaborative Bidding and other private sector procurement initiatives to promote collaborative procurement will be covered.

SIPM215 Contract Administration and Collaborative Contracting
This course enhances participants’ contract administration and management skills to draft contract specifications and terms to address business needs, execute contract in accordance to contract provisions and clients’ approval process, and interpret contractual matters with regards to the rights and obligations of contractual parties. It also covers global collaborative contract practices such as New Engineering Contract (NEC) 4, Alliance Contract and AIA Standard Document for Integrated Project Delivery. Participants will learn the collaborative contractual provisions in local context, for both public and private sector projects, with dispute resolution mechanism. Possible challenges for adopting collaborative contracting will also be discussed.

SIPM216 Project Assignment (for the award of SDIPM)
The project assignment requires participants to apply their learnings in the five courses to  demonstrate their understanding on the planning, management and execution of building projects with collaborative and IPD approach.

Exemption

Participants who hold the BCA-SPM Certificate of Successful Completion in Project Management for Professionals in the Building and Construction Industry (Course code: 73099) are exempted from SIPM212 Project Management Body of Knowledge in BE sector.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

There is no entry requirement for applicants to individual courses. Only those who have successfully completed the five courses (or given exemptions) may apply for Project Assignment. Those who wish to be awarded the Specialist Diploma in Integrated Project Management should meet the following requirements:
• A diploma (min course duration of 2 years) or equivalent qualification or
• NITEC/ Higher NITEC or other relevant certificate with 4 to 5 years of relevant work experience.

Applicants must have their own computers/laptops with minimum specifications to run BIM software and access student portal.

Applicant with degree or diploma qualification where English is not the medium of instruction is required to achieve the ESS Workplace Literacy Test Level 6 issued by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG).

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

BE professionals who wish to be equipped with the skills and competencies to take on project management roles such as Project Managers, Project Management Executives or Construction Management Engineers. Existing project or construction management professionals who wish to

advance their skillsets to manage building projects more effectively and with collaborative and IPD approach.

PASSING CRITERIA AND AWARD OF CERTIFICATION

Each course comes with an assessment. Candidates who pass the assessment and meet attendance requirements of a course will be issued a Certificate of Successful Completion (CSC) for the individual course. Those who meet attendance requirements but nevertheless do not manage to pass the assessment will be issued a Certificate of Attendance. Candidates who have successfully obtained CSCs for the five courses and pass the overall project assignment within the maximum allowable candidature.
