As Singapore's Built Environment projects become increasingly complex, project managers are increasingly expected to navigate complex stakeholder needs, tighter project requirements and new ways of delivery projects.
To strengthen these capabilities, BCA Academy is introducing a new Certification Course on Project Management for the Built Environment, developed in collaboration with the Society of Project Managers (SPM), JTC Corporation's Building & Infrastructure Centre of Excellence (B&I CentEx), and Project Management Institute (PMI).
The new programme was announced by Ms Indranee Rajah, Second Minister for National Development, at the SPM 31st Annual Dinner on 15 September 2026. It marks another step in BCA Academy's efforts to work closely with industry partners to strengthen the project management landscape in Singapore.
Building Capabilities for the Future
The new programme builds on BCA's collaboration with PMI, announced at the Built Environment and Real Estate Prospect Seminar in January 2026, to incorporate international best practices and PMI-Construction Professional (PMI-CP) competencies into programmes curated by BCA Academy.
It is also aligned with the enhanced Built Environment Project Management Competency Framework, which draws on Singapore's Skills Framework for the Built Environment and public sector competency framework. The framework provides a common reference for the capabilities project managers need to navigate increasingly complex building and infrastructure projects.
Spanning the full project lifecycle, it identifies six key competency areas that reflects the evolving demands on today’s project management professionals.
From Competencies to Professional Development
Bringing together Singapore Built Environment context, industry expertise and international best project management practices, the new course will help project managers strengthen their capabilities in areas such as governance, risk, stakeholder and project controls.
Designed to support professionals at different stages of their careers, the programme adopts a modular and stackable approach, offering flexibility for professionals to build capabilities relevant to their roles and career aspirations.
Those who complete the programme will receive accelerated Certified Project Manager (CPM) accreditation by SPM as well as the internationally recognised PMI-CP certification, strengthening both their local professional standing and their credibility on the international stage.
