About the Course

Overview

Design for Maintainability (DfM) is identified as a key pillar to accelerate transformation through a more integrated ecosystem, linking maintenance outcomes to design processes leading to a more sustainable, labour-efficient, and cost-effective maintenance regimes throughout the life of a facility.

Objectives

The course covers insights into the criteria, design strategies, and best practices under GM2021: Maintainability Section for Residential development as well as practical applications of DfM in public housing projects.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
• Understand the principles, requirements, and tools of DfM
• Understand HDB’s Guidelines & Maintenance Issues for public housing projects
• Aware of best practices in the application of DfM for public housing projects

  - Challenges faced by Town Councils

Key DfM considerations in Public Housing
• HDB’s Requirements on Maintainability
• HDB/Town Council’s experience
  - Common design and maintenance issues

Practical Application of DfM in Public Housing Projects
• Architectural and practical considerations in DfM :
  - Adequate maintenance access 
  - Choice and material selection
 
  - Appropriate detailing for greater resistance against weathering
• Case Studies and examples on the good practices of DfM in public housing projects

Assessment & Award

An e-Certificate of Successful Completion (e-CSC) will be issued to participants who:
- Achieve at least 75% class attendance; and 
- Pass MCQ test and group assignment
