Essential Knowledge on Lift Type Testing Safety Components and Examinations using SS 550

OVERVIEW
The Singapore Standard SS 550:2020 on the Installation, Operation and Maintenance of Electric Passenger and Goods Lift was updated recently. The key requirement in the standard is the type examination of the safety components specified in accordance with EN 81-50 which is a European Standard on the examinations and tests of lift components. This course will explain the requirements for EU-type examination of model lifts and safety components of lifts.

OBJECTIVES
At the end of the course, participants should be able to:
• Understand SS 550:2020 requirements on type examination of safety components and model lifts
• Review design documents on type examination
• Review test and inspection reports
• Review certificates for model lift and safety components

Azaad Santoe has more than 35 years’ experience working with the European Directives and Standards on Lifts and Machines. Currently, he is a product certification specialist at Liftinstituut. His main responsibilities include the certification of lifts, safety components and escalators (specialising in heavy duty escalators). In addition, he is a consultant, lecturer and trainer for various organisations around the world. Prior to his current position at Liftinstituut, he was a senior inspector for 23 years and inspected lifts and escalators for the public-transportation company, RET in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
