The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) champions the development of an excellent built environment for Singapore. The building and construction industry meets new challenges constantly, be it changing needs of owners or the refashioning of building trends. Continual improvements in construction processes, materials, practices and products are needed to ensure the industry’s ability to deliver quality buildings.
The Centre for Sustainable Buildings and Construction is BCA’s dedicated research management team that focuses on building solutions for the future through research and development (R&D). We drive R&D efforts to support BCA’s strategic policies and directions, especially in niche areas where gaps in the level of technology or know-how is an impediment to the overall progress of the industry; all this while capitalizing on where Singapore has a competitive edge. We provide a unifying platform for the various segments of the industry to come together to work on projects with a common objective. Our partners include academic institutions, professional bodies, private companies as well as government agencies.
Depending on the nature of the project, our involvement could range from analyzing building trends, facilitating pilot projects, reviewing international best practices, verifying material performance through in-house laboratory studies to test-bedding through our flagship project, the Zero Energy Building (ZEB@BCA Academy).
The Centre for Sustainable Buildings and Construction recognizes that the dissemination of research findings and new technologies is essential for the advancement of the industry. To this end, we work closely with research partners to ensure that findings are translated into practice-based design guidelines/ methodology. Knowledge gained from case studies and best practices are also shared regularly with the industry.
