A. ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
Introduction
The Master of Science (MSc) in Sustainable Building Design is a multi-disciplinary programme of postgraduate study tailored for green professionals of the built environment. The curriculum of this programme is specially designed to emphasise the successful integration of design & technology, and to build capability in the application of sustainable design globally. This includes passive 'green' design, renewable energy, solar technology, high impact energy efficient systems, computer simulations and total building performance. Students will acquire competencies in conducting macro & micro analysis and simulations for projects located anywhere geographically.

15-credit modules comprise a 1-week intensive period
· Wednesday & Thursday evening sessions of 3 hours each
· One Friday session from 9.00am – 5.00pm
· One Saturday session from 9.00am – 5.00pm
· A two-hour video conference tutorial will be held 2 weeks after the intensive period
30-credit modules comprise two 1-week intensive period
· Two Wednesday sessions of three hours each
· Two Thursday sessions from 9.00am – 5.00pm
· Two Friday sessions from 9.00am – 5.00pm
· Two Saturday sessions from 9.00am – 5.00pm
· Two sessions of 2-hour video conferences will be held on weekday evenings, two and four weeks after the second intensive period
In addition to the above intensive study periods, participants are expected to do pre and post self study and assignments.
Dissertation
· Introductory briefing sessions will be held at BCA Academy
· Participants will be supervised by the faculty through email/video conferencing as appropriate
· The dissertation will be approximately 20,000 words
Award
The degree of MSc in Sustainable Building Design will be awarded by The University of Notthingham to participants who have achieved at least a passing mark of 50% in all modules (including the Dissertation).
In the event that the student only achieves between 40% and 49% for each module, he/she may be considered for the award of a Post-Graduate Diploma in Sustainable Building Design.
Commencement
The second intake will begin in September 2010.
The 2-year programme (including the Dissertation) can be completed at BCA Academy on a part-time basis.
B. ADMISSION
Criteria
1. A general degree from built environment related programme which may include Engineering, Architecture, Building Science, Property & Asset Management, Real Estate, Facilities Management, Building Management
2. Relevant degree holder with no working experience can also apply.
For non-degree holders whose qualifications are not obtained from an English conducted programme, they are required to submit one of the
following English language qualification:

TOEFL (paper version): 550 with at least 4.0 in TWE

TOEFL Internet based (IBT): 213 with at least 4.0 in TWE

IELTS 6.0 with at least Band 5 in all elements
3. Application is subject to the university’s final approval.
