4th run of the Tianjin Eco-city Training Programme
A delegation of 34 officials and professionals from the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City attended the Green Building Executive Development Programme (EDP) at BCA Academy from 14th to 18th May 2012. This was the 4th intake of the Green Building EDP since its launch in June 2010. The green building EDP is a programme jointly organised by BCA Academy and Tianjin Institute of Urban Construction (TIUC). It consists of two segments: a Tianjin segment conducted at TIUC and a Singapore segment conducted at BCA Academy. While the Tianjin segment focuses on the Eco-City’s own Green Building Evaluation Standard (GBES), the Singapore segment emphasises more about Singapore’s green polices and sustainable development practices with case studies and green project site tours.
BCA Academy had been working closely with BCA’s International Development Division to coordinate the programme and refine the course content. This was to ensure a quality programme for the Tianjin delegation. The Academy also lined up a pool of subject experts from within BCA as well as experts from external partners. They included the National University of Singapore, the United World College (SEA), National Parks Board, National Environment Agency, CPG Corporation, Woh Hup (Private) Limited, Samwoh R&D Centre, G-energy Global Pte Ltd, Keppel Land Limited, and City Development Limited. The invited experts shared with our participants their green knowledge and experience, green projects and sustainability practices.
During the one-week training at BCA Academy, participants learned about Singapore’s Building and Development Control System, Environment Control of Construction Sites, Green Building Master Plans and BCA’s Green Mark Scheme, Green & Sustainable Construction and the Green & Gracious Builder Scheme. In addition to classroom lectures, participants also visited Singapore Environment Institute (SEI) and a number of Green Mark Projects, including the Zero Energy Building@BCA Academy, Gardens by the Bay, Samwoh Eco-Green Park, United World College (SEA) Tampines Campus, Ocean Financial Centre and Republic Plaza.
At the graduation ceremony, Mdm Leong-Kok Su Ming, Principal of BCA Academy, highlighted the importance of having a pool of right people with the relevant knowledge and skills to drive the sustainability agenda. It is envisaged that BCA Academy’s Green Building EDP will attract not just the relevant people from the Tianjin Eco-City, but also green building managers and professionals from other cities of China as well.
