The Centre for Sustainable Buildings and Construction is the research arm of the BCA Academy. We support Building and Construction Authority (BCA)'s strategic thrusts and policy directions by promoting and undertaking strategic research in collaboration with members of the construction industry, research institutions and academia.
BCA’s mission is to create the best built environment for Singapore and to position Singapore as a distinctive global city. Four key areas of focus have been identified to drive our vision forward:
-
high safety standards,
-
quality excellence,
-
barrier-free accessibility, and
-
sustainability of the built environment.
Research undertaken by the Centre for Sustainable Buildings and Construction is generally centred on the four key areas of focus, with integration of cross-cutting objectives being a common feature. Our guiding principle is to accelerate the transfer of technology, capability and know-how from laboratories and knowledge centres to the wider industry. This is done by engendering the greater involvement of the industry in research projects, facilitating interactions between researchers and the industry, and by ensuring a continuous flow of information from knowledge centres to the industry.
The Centre for Sustainable Buildings and Construction collaborates with a wide range of institutions and companies. Funding for research projects comes mainly from government-backed research funds, such as the Ministry of National Development (MND) Research Fund for the Built Environment. We welcome collaboration on industry-oriented projects that can demonstrate benefits to the built environment and improvements in construction processes, practices or materials.
